The United States Secretary of the Treasury is the head of the United States Department of the Treasury.1 This department is concerned with financial and money matters.1 The Secretary of Treasury is the principal economic advisor to the President.1 They play a critical role in policy-making by bringing up economic and governmental financial policy perspectives and issues.1
The Secretary of the Treasury is responsible for preparing and suggesting domestic and international financial, economic, and tax policy.1 The Secretary is also responsible for participating in the preparation of broad fiscal policies that have significance for the economy, and managing public debt.1 The Secretary also oversees the activities of the Department of the Treasury in implementing its major law enforcement responsibilities; serving as the financial agent of the United States Government; and manufacturing coins and currency.
